Flutterwave and Yellow Card have officially joined the Circle Payments Network (CPN), a major step in transforming how cross-border payments are made in and out of Africa. With their inclusion, these African fintech leaders are now part of a global initiative launched by Circle Internet Group, a leader in stablecoin innovation. CPN connects financial institutions like banks, digital wallets, and payment service providers worldwide, enabling real-time transactions through stablecoins such as USDC and EURC. For Flutterwave, this means boosting its ability to offer affordable, fast, and compliant international payments to African businesses and the diaspora.

This move is part of a wider effort to simplify and modernize cross-border payments, which have historically been slow and expensive, especially for emerging markets. Circle’s network is designed to overcome the delays and high fees caused by multiple intermediaries and local banking restrictions. By adopting CPN, Flutterwave and Yellow Card can now offer more seamless cross-border services for use cases like remittances, payroll, and supplier payments, all with the speed and programmability of blockchain technology.

The Circle Payments Network already includes over 25 financial players globally, such as CoinMENA, dLocal, BVNK, and Zodia Markets. These organizations are now connected by a shared set of compliance and cybersecurity standards, ensuring trust and transparency across the board. Additionally, digital asset platforms like Fireblocks are on board, bringing even more scale and security to the ecosystem. Flutterwave highlighted the significance of joining the “world’s largest, most widely-used stablecoin network,” emphasizing its impact on businesses looking to scale across borders.

With CPN’s infrastructure built on smart contracts and modular APIs, there’s now room for third-party developers to innovate further by building apps, automations, and financial tools on top of the platform. According to Circle’s CEO, Jeremy Allaire, the goal is to make moving money as effortless as sending an email, a vision that now feels more tangible with African fintechs like Flutterwave and Yellow Card playing a central role. This development could reshape Africa’s financial landscape by making global payments smoother, faster, and more inclusive.
