At the 2025 Citi Business Festival (#CitiBusinessFestival), Martin Kwame Awagah, President of the Ghana Fintech and Payments Association, delivered a strong message to SMEs, urging them to embrace financial technology solutions as a catalyst for growth. Speaking during Week 4 of the On-Air Series, Awagah emphasized the significant impact fintech is having on the way people live, transact, and access financial services in Ghana and beyond.

Awagah explained that fintech has moved beyond being a trendy buzzword to becoming a vital tool for economic transformation. In emerging markets like Ghana, it has become central to improving financial inclusion and accelerating business development. He stressed that fintech’s rapid integration into daily life offers new opportunities for businesses to streamline operations and reach underserved markets.

Highlighting Africa’s demographic advantage, Awagah pointed to the continent’s youthful and tech-savvy population. This generation, he said, prioritizes convenience, speed, and digital accessibility, making them more inclined to adopt fintech platforms over traditional banking methods.

According to Awagah, this generational shift provides a golden opportunity for businesses to innovate. By aligning their services with fintech trends, SMEs can better meet customer expectations, increase competitiveness, and future-proof their operations in a fast-changing digital economy.

In conclusion, the message to businesses, particularly SMEs, was clear: to remain relevant and thrive in today’s landscape, they must integrate fintech solutions. Awagah’s call reinforces fintech’s growing role in reshaping the business environment, especially in Africa’s emerging economies.
