SON Release 80 Standards For CNG Vehicles, Others

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has introduced 80 standards to regulate the operations of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and related components. This initiative aims to enhance safety, reliability, and environmental sustainability in energy solutions.

Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, the Director General of SON, unveiled the standards in Abuja on Monday, highlighting their importance in promoting the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).The approved standards encompass various aspects of CNG utilization, including production, storage, transportation, and appliance compatibility.

Dr. Okeke emphasized the significance of these standards in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of CNG vehicles and related equipment on Nigerian roads. Micheal Oluwagbemi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, emphasized that the standards were developed in alignment with global best practices. He underscored the federal government’s commitment to enforcing strict compliance with these standards among operators to guarantee safety and reliability in CNG usage.
