Residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, took to the streets on Monday to express their grievances regarding the economic challenges prevailing in the nation.

Originating from the Mokola area of Ibadan, the protest, predominantly led by youth, resulted in the blockage of key roads, including the Mokola under-bridge and Queen Elizabeth Road, leading to significant disruptions in traffic flow.

The protesters voiced their discontent, particularly highlighting the soaring cost of food and the overall decline in living standards attributed to widespread inflation across the country. Placards with inscriptions such as ‘E bi n pawa’ (We’re hungry) underscored the palpable frustration among demonstrators, as captured in social media images.

To ensure law and order, armed police officers were deployed to the scene, emphasizing the seriousness of the protest. This incident follows similar protests in Minna and Suleja earlier in the month, indicating a growing discontent among the populace with various government policies.
