The use of technology to tax all national digital transactions has been mandated by President Muhammadu Buhari. The president reportedly instructed the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to make sure that digital transactions are taxed.
He spoke in Abuja at the 10th anniversary and 17th general meeting of the West Africa Tax Administration Forum (WATAF). The SGF stated that the president have given the FIRS authority to carry out the assignment.
“As far as the digital economy is concerned, Nigeria is putting measures in place to guarantee that we stay current with these advancements; and provide answers to the questions of what to gather and how to collect it.
The chairman of the FIRS, also spoke, stating that tax authorities and industry participants must accept the problem of taxation digital transactions.
