The first annual U.N. Climate conference to be held following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions is taking place from November 6–18 in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Campaigners view it as an important forum for sounding the climate change alarm; and putting pressure on governments to take action

In the beginning of the year, hotel rates that reached hundreds of dollars per night discouraged people from traveling to Egypt from outside the country.

Following pressure from the civil society, the government agreed to a $120 price maximum for two-star hotels; and recently announced lower lodging costs. According to Egyptian officials, market forces determine hotel rates; and peaceful demonstrations would be welcomed throughout the summit with special areas set aside for them.
