Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly shifting from a theoretical innovation to a powerful driver of transformation across industries, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM). The institute says AI is now reshaping how organisations operate, make decisions, and manage workforce systems.
Speaking in Lagos, the President and Chairman of CIPM Governing Council, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, stressed that stakeholders must pay closer attention to both the opportunities and ethical concerns that come with AI adoption. He noted that the technology is already influencing productivity, efficiency, and decision-making processes across multiple sectors.
Gobir explained that while AI presents major opportunities for innovation and economic growth, its implementation must be guided by strong ethical standards. He highlighted transparency, accountability, and inclusivity as key principles that should shape how organisations deploy AI systems in Nigeria and beyond.
He further warned that the future of work will depend heavily on how well institutions balance technological advancement with human-centred values. According to him, continuous learning, reskilling, and strong governance frameworks will be essential to ensure AI does not widen inequality or disrupt labour systems unfairly.
Meanwhile, CIPM announced that its 3rd International Academic Conference will focus on the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Academia, Industry and Government: Navigating Ethics, Innovation and Impact.” The event is expected to bring together academics, policymakers, industry leaders, and HR professionals to explore AI ethics, human-AI collaboration, and its long-term impact on society and economic systems.
