Edo State is taking significant strides towards economic growth as it seeks to attract investors through the recently concluded Edo State Investment Forum in Dubai. The forum, organized by the Foreign Investment Network (FIN), aimed to create opportunities for investment in key sectors, especially agriculture and food security. The event was a turning point in positioning the state as a prime investment destination.
His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, the 42nd Oba of Benin, played a central role in affirming Edo’s commitment to sustainable economic growth. The Oba was honored with the FIN Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts in promoting cultural preservation, national unity, and economic diplomacy. He has been instrumental in advocating for inclusive development and attracting investments to the region.
The investment forum, led by foreign direct investment expert Mr. Ahabue Borha, featured participation from prominent international investors, including Jayesh Chandra Gupta and Anirudh Pathak. These investors have pledged their support to partner with Edo State on ambitious projects, particularly in agriculture. Among the notable initiatives is a transformative poultry megaproject, “Edo Feeds the Nation,” which aims to revolutionize the state’s poultry sector by integrating modern technology and infrastructure.
The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, whose administration has prioritized agricultural transformation, also received recognition at the forum. He was awarded the Distinguished FIN Emerging Governor of the Year Award for his efforts in revitalizing the state’s investment climate and launching key projects, including a poultry megaproject to address food security.
The poultry initiative, set to be one of the largest in Africa, promises significant economic benefits. With a 1000-hectare poultry zone, feed mills, hatcheries, and cold-chain distribution systems, the project is expected to create 15,000 jobs over five years and reduce chicken prices by 40%. The project will position Edo as Nigeria’s poultry leader, with strong export potential to neighboring West African countries.
