The World Bank has announced its commitment to helping Ghana address its youth unemployment crisis through a new Growth and Jobs Strategy. The initiative is designed to create over 500,000 jobs annually for young people entering the job market. This move comes as part of the World Bank’s broader efforts to support inclusive economic growth and tackle the challenges faced by Ghana’s youth population.

The announcement was made following a high-level meeting between the World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, and Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. The discussions focused on designing and implementing a comprehensive strategy aimed at not only creating jobs but also equipping the youth with necessary skills to thrive in the workforce.

Bjerde emphasized the importance of unlocking opportunities for young people as a priority for both parties. She expressed confidence that the collaboration between the World Bank and Ghana would build a more resilient economy, ultimately benefiting the youth and the country’s overall economic landscape.

Minister Forson welcomed the World Bank’s support, highlighting the significance of targeted interventions in addressing the growing number of job seekers in Ghana. He noted that this partnership marks a significant step towards providing sustainable and decent employment opportunities for the youth in the country.
