The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has reported a 72% completion rate on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, highlighting its importance in Nigeria’s gas-led energy transition agenda. This update was shared during the 2025 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum in Abuja, where NNPC’s Group CEO Bayo Ojulari—represented by EVP, Upstream, Udobong Ntia—stressed the company’s alignment with Nigeria’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. He revealed ongoing efforts, including the autogas program targeting over a million vehicles and the integration of green hydrogen feasibility studies.

Ojulari emphasized energy security as a non-negotiable goal for Nigeria’s 200 million citizens. He cited several power projects under NNPC’s umbrella, such as a 1-gigawatt BiIPP-JV, 650 MW from FarmJV, and a 50 MW emergency plant in Maiduguri, all contributing to a more diversified and stable national power mix. He reiterated NNPC’s pivotal role in securing and sustaining energy access through strategic infrastructure and innovation.

Technology and local content development were also spotlighted as key pillars of NNPC’s operational strategy. Ojulari described how automation, AI, and real-time reservoir monitoring are reshaping upstream operations under NNPC Exploration and Production Limited. He applauded the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) as a transformative step that positioned NNPC to compete globally, while also affirming the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act’s role in driving over $10 billion in local value since 2020.

Industry stakeholders at the event, including SPE Nigeria Council and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, echoed the need for sustainable energy practices tailored to Nigeria’s realities. Engr. Amina Danmadami of SPE emphasized the continued relevance of oil and gas to Nigeria’s economy, urging the use of policy and technology to enhance the sector rather than replace it. PTDF, represented by Ifeoma Nwokike, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting capacity building and innovation to ensure energy security through resilient supply chains.
