The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Wale Adeniyi, announced that the new Advance Ruling System by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will stop illegal firearm imports and substandard goods from entering Nigeria. This was revealed during a sensitisation program for officers in Lagos. Adeniyi emphasized that Section 24 of the Customs Act gives officers the authority to prevent the importation of harmful goods. Represented by Assistant Comptroller General Saidu Yusuf, he urged officers to follow the NCS rules of engagement strictly. The Advance Ruling System requires importers to declare the status of their items before importing. This system allows officers to query the classification, type, origin, and value of consignments. After completing this process, importers receive a certificate for a government-set fee, ensuring better control and compliance.
