Nigerian labor unions have called off their nationwide strike after a productive meeting with the federal government. The government pledged to increase the minimum wage to a figure exceeding N60,000, though the specific amount remains undisclosed.

This agreement follows intervention by the National Assembly after the unions walked out of previous negotiations. To determine the exact new minimum wage, the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage will reconvene daily for the next week. Additionally, both parties have committed to preventing retaliation against workers who participated in the strike action.

This development signifies a positive step towards ending the strike and reaching a new minimum wage agreement that better reflects the cost of living in Nigeria.
