Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), announced that the 252 Megawatts Gbarain Power Plant in Bayelsa State will soon commence operations to address the power needs of the state and neighboring regions.
Speaking during a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Power to the power plant, Ugbo cited cash flow constraints as the main challenge that delayed the resuscitation of the burnt Power Control Module.
The deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, highlighted endemic corruption and lack of patriotism among stakeholders in the power sector as major obstacles to the government’s efforts in driving industrial and economic development in Nigeria. This underscores the importance of addressing systemic issues to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the power sector.
Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, explained that their visit to Bayelsa aimed to inspect the burnt section of the power transmission station at Gbarain in the Yenagoa Local Government Area.
