The African Energy Week (AEW) has officially launched its 2025 conference, marking a pivotal moment in Africa’s energy future. Capital expenditure in Africa’s oil and gas sector is projected to reach $43 billion in 2025, with long-term forecasts anticipating $54 billion by 2030. AEW 2025, scheduled to return to Cape Town, will highlight critical energy topics such as oil, gas, renewables, and the region’s energy transition. The event promises to foster partnerships and policies aimed at eradicating energy poverty in Africa by 2030.
During the launch, NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, emphasized AEW’s role in shaping Africa’s energy revolution. He underscored that AEW 2025 would be a key platform for deal-making that would define the continent’s energy future. With the theme “Positioning Africa as the Next Global Energy Champion,” the event will cover the entire energy value chain, from exploration to energy finance, and will showcase diverse developments across Africa’s power sector, which is undergoing transformation to combat energy poverty.
A major focus of AEW 2025 will be on gas-to-power solutions, with countries like Nigeria, Algeria, and Egypt leading the charge in regional development. The Powering Africa stage will explore energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and grid expansion, while the Energy Finance stage will discuss investment barriers and strategies for unlocking financing. The event will also delve into the financial and technical sides of the energy transition, including an expanded format featuring technical hubs and a deal room for accelerated project realization.
The conference will also spotlight specific African countries, including Senegal, South Africa, and Namibia, and offer strategic discussions involving OPEC, BRICS, and COP 30. A key highlight will be the G20 Energy Leaders Roundtable, held alongside the G20 Summit in South Africa. As AEW 2025 unfolds, the event will explore Africa’s expanding green energy sector, with countries like Namibia and South Africa taking the lead in renewable energy projects such as green hydrogen and solar/wind initiatives.
