The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated a preliminary evaluation into approximately 250,712 Honda Insight and Honda Passport vehicles due to concerns regarding inadvertent activation of automatic emergency braking.

According to the NHTSA’s report, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received 46 complaints, including reports of three crashes or fires and two injuries associated with the issue. Inadvertent activation of the automatic emergency braking system could potentially escalate the risk of collisions leading to injury and property damage.

The preliminary evaluation marks the initial phase of an NHTSA investigation, entailing a thorough review of consumer complaints and manufacturer service bulletins to assess the potential existence of a safety defect.
