The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a public notice indicating its intent to bar Globacom customers from making calls to MTN lines due to an alleged non-settlement of interconnect charges. The NCC granted partial approval for the disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc after reviewing an application made by MTN. According to the notice signed by the Director, Public Affairs Department, Reuben Muoka, Globacom was given the opportunity to comment and present its case. The NCC, after examining the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, concluded that Globacom lacks sufficient or justifiable reasons for non-payment of the interconnect charges. The NCC specified that, after 10 days from the notice date, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN, although they can still receive calls. The partial disconnection will persist until otherwise determined by the commission, highlighting the potential impact on communication services between the two telecom networks.
