Accra Medical Center and IFC collaborate to increase access to affordable healthcare in Ghana

IFC announced a partnership with Accra Medical Centre Ltd. (AMC) to assist the health service provider expand its operations in Accra and Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, where there are less contemporary facilities.

The goal of the agreement is to provide access to affordable, high-quality healthcare in Ghana. In accordance with the agreement, IFC would lend AMC $5.7 million to help with the development of a new 20-bed hospital in Takoradi, therefore lowering the distance some patients must travel to receive high-quality care.

AMC wants to raise the number of patients it serves each year to 120,000 by upgrading its maternity services, intensive care units, and speciality operations at its current hospital in Accra. IFC will advise AMC on healthcare quality management in addition to funding and on advancing its strategy to service lower income patients.

IFC’s partnership with Accra Medical Centre will increase access to quality healthcare in Ghana, supporting the country’s goal of expanding access to quality health coverage. The AMC partnership will be IFC’s single biggest investment in a health service provider in Ghana.
