The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group confirmed that US citizen Ajay Banga was the only candidate for the job of the bank’s next President.
In February, US President Joe Biden proposed Banga as the next president of the World Bank, claiming that he is “fully suited” to do so at “this vital juncture in history.”
The 63-year-old Banga was naturalized as a US citizen after being born in India. If elected, Banga will be the first Indian-American to serve as the head of the World Bank or the IMF.
David Malpass, who will stand down in June, almost a year before his term is supposed to expire, is anticipated to be replaced by Banga.
