Airlines have faced significant challenges as a result of the high cost of aviation fuel, which accounts for a sizable portion of their operational expenses. The lack of foreign currency in the nation has made it challenging for airlines to buy replacement components for the upkeep of their fleets.

Osita Okonkwo, Chief Operating Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, explained that after deducting the cost of fuel and fees to various aviation agencies like the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigerian Airspace Management, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, what was left was too small to support the airline’s operations.
