According to Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, they predicted rise in population and industrialization would result in an increase in energy consumption for Nigeria and other African nations of between 30% and 35%.
At the seventh Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC), which was held in Lagos, he said as much.
Kyari expressed gratitude to the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) for hosting the conference and reaffirmed the NNPC Limited’s commitment to working closely with all participants in the energy sector to advance the sustainability and expansion of Africa’s energy sector.
One of the top annual energy conferences in sub-Saharan Africa, according to Odinuwe, SAIPEC brings together hundreds of local and foreign companies, including technology providers and regulators, to share information on domestic and international developments in the energy sector, business deals, and cross-border collaborations.
According to him, the African Union should take into account a unified/integrated African certification or standard, similar to what is used in the United States, the European Union, Britain, etc.
