Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO, has a record in the Guinness Book of Records for losing $165 billion of his personal wealth. After losing the money in December 2022, Musk was designated as having suffered the “largest loss of personal fortune.”
According to Forbes, Tesla’s stock’s poor performance was a major factor in Musk’s net worth declining from its peak of $320 billion in November 2021 to $155 billion one year later. According to additional information, his losses may actually be closer to $200 billion.
The total far exceeds the previous record of $58.6 billion, suffered by Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son in 2000, despite it being nearly impossible to determine the exact amount.
With a 14 percent stake, Musk is Tesla’s largest shareholder. His net worth peaked in November 2021, reaching $340bn, according to Bloomberg.
However, Musk’s fortunes were dented after the Twitter takeover coupled with his “polarising behaviour on the platform” that sparked the biggest Tesla stock sell-off, Guinness World Records said.
Punch.
