The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine saw powerful explosions that “abruptly ended a period of relative tranquillity” there.
IAEA specialists on the ground claimed that more than a dozen bombs were heard within a short period of time in the morning local time in what seemed to be repeated shelling near and at the location of Europe’s biggest nuclear power facility.
According to press sources, the nuclear energy authorities of both Russia and Ukraine both attributed the strikes to the troops of the other side, raising concerns about a severe nuclear disaster. No radioactive leakage have been reported at the Russian-occupied plant thus far.
The IAEA team of specialists intends to evaluate the effects of the shelling on the site.
