Olivier Buyoya has been appointed as the new regional director for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in West Africa. Buyoya, a Burundian, will cover 13 nations, according to the World Bank office. This was made public on Friday, November 3 2022.

“I’m thrilled to assume this new position and look forward to boosting IFC’s assistance for West Africa, a dynamic region with enormous promise,” said Buyoya. Agribusiness, renewable energy, the digital economy, and other important industries may all help the area establish stronger, more sustainable economies, according to Buyoya, even if West Africa faces both regional and global issues.

The new regional director will work with the World Bank, development partners, and individuals from the public and private sectors to increase the IFC’s investment.

Olivier Buyoya represented the IFC in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, and Niger prior to his current assignment. Prior to it, he held a variety of jobs for fifteen years in the organization.

Ivorian Christopher Bailliet-Bleziri oversees the IFC in Togo. By assisting SMEs, particularly those in the ICT and mobility (Gozem) sectors, the institution benefits the nation. Additionally, it promotes energy transfer.
