As the war approaches its eighth month, Russia has increased its attacks on power plants, water delivery networks; and other crucial infrastructure around the nation.

After air raid sirens sounded across the nation, the Ukrainian air force said that Russia had conducted “a huge missile attack” against “essential infrastructure.”

It claimed to have shot down 18 of the 33 cruise missiles fired from the air and the sea. “A few missiles” aimed at the city were shot down, according to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, on the messaging app Telegram.

Moscow has intensified its attacks on vital civilian infrastructure across Ukraine during the past two weeks. About 40% of the country’s electric power system has been severely damaged, officials said.
