Artificial intelligence is taking on a new role in Nigeria’s youth development space as YouthDesk.ai, a new AI-powered platform, seeks to make it easier for young Nigerians to find jobs, scholarships, grants, internships and skills-development opportunities. Founded by Alabi Opeyemi, Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the platform is designed to bring scattered opportunities and youth-focused resources together in one digital space.
At the centre of YouthDesk.ai is AI Padi, an artificial intelligence-powered assistant created to offer personalised guidance and help users navigate opportunities that match their needs and interests. The platform also features an Opportunity Hub, bringing together job openings, scholarships, internships, grants, fellowships and training programmes, potentially saving young people the time and frustration of searching across multiple platforms for reliable information.
The developers said the idea was born out of a common challenge facing many Nigerian youths: knowing where to find genuine opportunities and having access to the right networks to pursue them. YouthDesk.ai is therefore designed not only for young people in major cities but also for those at the grassroots, where limited digital access, location and institutional connections can make it harder to hear about jobs, training and empowerment programmes.
Opeyemi described the platform as more than another digital application, saying it is intended to serve as an “opportunity infrastructure and ecosystem” connecting young people with institutions. Through partnerships with businesses, government agencies, non-governmental organisations and development partners, YouthDesk.ai aims to create more pathways for employment, entrepreneurship, mentorship, scholarships, training and capacity building. The platform also hopes to strengthen collaboration between young people and grassroots youth leaders.
YouthDesk.ai is expected to be formally unveiled on September 3, 2026, when youth leaders, government representatives, businesses, NGOs and other stakeholders will have an opportunity to explore the platform and potential partnerships. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people access information and services, the initiative is betting that technology can make opportunity discovery faster, more personalised and more accessible to young Nigerians.
