The Federal Government has unveiled a fresh development blueprint aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy through a grassroots-driven model under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Development Plan. The initiative is designed to stimulate economic activities from the ward level upward, creating a more inclusive and locally driven growth structure across the country.

Speaking in Abuja, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, explained that the new approach focuses on identifying the unique resources, talents, and economic strengths within each ward. According to her, this bottom-up strategy is expected to unlock hidden opportunities and drive development where it is most needed.

As part of preparations for the National Development Plan (2026–2033), the ministry is currently carrying out a nationwide survey and mapping exercise of all wards. The goal is to assign at least one viable economic activity to each ward, based on its comparative advantages, natural resources, and local capabilities, in a bid to improve productivity and reduce regional inequality.

The plan also aligns with ongoing institutional reforms, as discussions with the Federal Character Commission focused on improving equitable distribution of infrastructure. The commission is developing a new monitoring tool known as the Infrastructure Balancing Index, designed to complement existing frameworks for fair recruitment and development allocation.

Officials say the collaboration reflects a broader commitment to inclusive governance and national cohesion. The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Deborah Odoh, reaffirmed that the government remains committed to ensuring that development is evenly spread, while strengthening partnerships that promote sustainable economic growth across Nigeria.
