President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has carried out a significant but described “minor” cabinet reshuffle, removing Wale Edun from his role as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. In his place, Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, has been elevated to take over the country’s top economic portfolio.

According to a statement released by the Presidency through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the changes are expected to be fully implemented with a formal handover concluding on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026. The directive also instructed all affected ministries to ensure smooth transition processes without delays.

The reshuffle also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has been relieved of his position. The President has nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as his replacement, pending completion of formal takeover procedures within the same timeline.

Speaking on the changes, SGF George Akume said the decision aligns with President Tinubu’s constitutional powers and is aimed at improving coordination, efficiency, and delivery across key sectors of the economy under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the President appreciated the outgoing ministers for their service and contributions to national development.

The Presidency emphasized that the reshuffle is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen governance and ensure better economic performance. While described as routine, the move signals a renewed push by the Tinubu administration to recalibrate its economic team amid rising expectations around growth, housing delivery, and fiscal management.
