The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), has entered into a strategic partnership with PlotWeaver, an artificial intelligence–powered storytelling platform, to deploy AI-driven tools aimed at transforming Nigeria’s film and cinema industry. The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of understanding and is expected to usher in a new phase of innovation for filmmakers across the country.

In a statement released on Monday, the NFC described the partnership as timely and forward-looking, noting that it would significantly enhance the storytelling capabilities of Nigerian creatives. According to the corporation, the initiative marks a major step in strengthening the country’s rapidly growing film sector by integrating technology with cultural expression.

Speaking on the development, NFC Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, said the collaboration aligns with the Federal Government’s broader push to deepen the creative economy through innovation. He explained that the project would introduce seamless film development processes and enable filmmakers to explore new storytelling opportunities powered by artificial intelligence.

Etuk added that the AI-powered tools would be deployed nationwide across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and made accessible to a wide range of users, including professional filmmakers, students of creative studies, emerging talents, and film training institutions. The aim, he said, is to democratise access to modern storytelling tools and build capacity across the industry.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Dr Ali Nuhu, described the initiative as transformative, stressing that it goes beyond software deployment. He said the partnership represents a shift toward a future where cultural storytelling meets cutting-edge technology, while PlotWeaver’s Founder and Chief Executive, Oluwole Fagbohun, confirmed that implementation would span three years, covering training, funding, and infrastructure to support authentic Nigerian stories on a global stage.
