The Akwa Ibom State Government has allocated a total of N335 million in grants to farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs in the Oron Federal Constituency. Governor Umo Eno made the announcement during a town hall meeting aimed at addressing the region’s development needs and providing financial support. This initiative is part of the state’s broader efforts to foster grassroots economic empowerment and ensure inclusivity within the local economy.

The funds will be distributed across the five Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Oron Federal Constituency: Oron, Okobo, Udung Uko, Urue Offong Oruko, and Mbo. Specifically, N51 million was allotted to 108 farmers under the ARISE Farmers’ Loan Scheme, while N225 million went to 543 business owners and traders. Additionally, N50 million was allocated to 10 entrepreneurs, each receiving N5 million.

This disbursement follows previous grants made under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, which has consistently focused on enhancing small businesses and agriculture in Akwa Ibom. In addition to these financial interventions, the governor provided updates on key infrastructure projects, such as the near-completion of the 14km Airport-Nsit Atai-Okobo Road, which has been under development for several years. The governor also outlined plans for a city gate and sales center linked to the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

Governor Eno emphasized that these efforts are part of a larger strategy to boost economic growth and improve the livelihood of residents across the state. His administration has set aside more than N5.1 billion for further grants to farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs, reflecting an ongoing commitment to economic empowerment under the ARISE programme.
