The Nigeria Police Force has announced the impending prosecution of three former officers involved in hijacking a truck loaded with 40,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Enugu State. The announcement was made via the police’s X page on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

The suspects, identified as ex-Insp. Otache Egbe, ex-Insp. Abah Solomon, and ex-Sgt. James Mamah, were apprehended following an operation that also led to the rescue of the truck’s driver and motor boy. The incident occurred along the Ohodo-Opi Road in Igbo-Etiti LGA on May 29, 2024.

The police recovered significant evidence, including two AK-47 rifles, 105 rounds of ammunition, and various security uniforms. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to recover the stolen PMS. The suspects have confessed to their crimes and are currently under investigation by the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the force’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements, regardless of their previous affiliations, and emphasized collaboration with all stakeholders in combating crime.

This development coincides with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s (NNPC) recent disclosure of about 400 incidents of oil theft in one week.
