Militant group demands 25% of Okomu Oil Plc shares after fatal attack on host community 

A militant group identified as the “Ijaw Freedom Fighters” launched an attack on the Imariogha community near the Okomu Oil palm plantation on Sunday night, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The group demanded a 25% stake in Okomu Oil shares, specifying their focus on the palm oil firm rather than security operatives.

During the assault, more than eight vehicles were set ablaze, with the group targeting the community situated in the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, formerly known as AT&P. Mr. Funsho Adegboye, Commissioner of Police in Edo, confirmed the incident, indicating the severity of the attack.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants entered the community from the riverside, firing shots and setting vehicles on fire, resulting in extensive damage to houses. Tragically, the attack led to one fatality, and a community elder, Pa Gabriel Okorugbe, sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The group, in a note addressed to Governor Godwin Obaseki, outlined demands, including a directorship position and 25% ownership of Okomu Oil Palm Plc, emphasizing their intention to target the company rather than security personnel.]
