The Department of Development Control, under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has issued a 24-hour demolition notice to proprietors of 500 unauthorized markets and makeshift structures along the Karmo-Dei-Dei Road corridor in Abuja. Mr. Garba Jibril, Sector Monitor and Assistant Director in the department, disclosed this following an operation conducted in Abuja on Monday.

Jibril emphasized the necessity of demolishing these unauthorized structures, citing their contribution to road disturbances and significant traffic congestion, particularly on market days. The Director of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, conducted a sensitization meeting with stakeholders to address the issue.

Despite the FCTA granting a contract for the development of the Life Camp-Dei-Dei Road, ongoing presence of traders along the corridor obstructs contractors from commencing work. Jibril stressed the importance of compliance with the 24-hour notice, warning of consequences for non-compliance. This move underscores FCTA’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and addressing traffic congestion challenges in Abuja.
