Yulia Navalnaya Joins EU Ministers to Condemn Putin’s Regime

Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Alexei Navalny, a vocal opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin who tragically passed away in an Arctic prison, will participate in discussions with EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday, just ahead of the two-year anniversary of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

At a gathering in Munich, Navalnaya emphasized Putin and his allies’ accountability for the hardships endured by her family and her late husband, underscoring their responsibility for the state of the country. Announced by foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, Navalnaya’s presence at the meeting will spotlight the EU’s solidarity with pro-democracy activists in Russia and commemorate the legacy of Alexei Navalny.

Navalny, a former lawyer renowned for his anti-corruption activism, garnered international attention through his relentless campaigns against corruption in Putin’s Russia. His untimely demise following his collapse at the Polar Wolf penal colony has raised widespread concerns about political persecution and human rights violations in Russia.

Amidst discussions on military aid for Ukraine, the EU foreign ministers will deliberate on the European Union’s forthcoming sanctions package against Moscow. These deliberations signify the EU’s stance against Russia’s aggressive actions and its commitment to upholding democratic values and human rights.
