The eSIM (embedded SIM), a digital SIM that gives users access to the same functionality as physical SIMs sold in stores, was launched by Airtel Tanzania, making it the first telco in Tanzania to do so.

A programmable SIM card known as a “eSIM” is permanently integrated onto the Universal Integrated Circuit Card chip in your phone.

Beatrice Singano, director of communications for Airtel Tanzania, said that by becoming the nation’s first eSIM carrier in Dar es Salaam during the inauguration, Airtel has paved the way.

With Airtel Tanzania’s eSIM, they may utilize up to five numbers on a single phone and no longer need to own several phones to fit the sim card.
