The leading producer of cocoa in the world has been impact by the shift in rain patterns. Nearly half of the raw cacao use in chocolate is from Ivory Coast.

According to the cooperative that assists farmers with marketing their goods, small-scale cocoa growers are suffering as a result of climate change.

For the cocoa tree to produce healthy fruit, rain must fall at the appropriate points in the growth cycle.

According to the Coffee-Cocoa Council, cocoa growing supports roughly a quarter of the population of Ivory Coast, employing close to 600,000 farmers.
