FG, EU, AFD Sign €25m To Strengthen Electricity Grid In Northwest.

A grant agreement for €25 million has signed by the Nigerian government and the French Development Agency (AFD) for the Northern Corridor Project; which is jointly by the European Union and the AFD.

In the presence of the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Emmanuelle Blatmann, and the Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, the agreement was signed by the Honourable Minister of State for Budget and National Planning; Prince Clem Agba, and the AFD Country Director in Nigeria, Xavier Muron.

The project’s goals, according to the French Embassy, are to strengthen the northwest network globally, increase population access to electricity; assist in the evacuation and distribution of solar-generated energy from upcoming projects in the north; and take part in the WAPP interconnection project with the Niger Republic. These goals are all in line with the Nigerian Energy Transition Plan (ETP).

“The project will construct or upgrade 13 substations and more than 800km of 330 kV double circuit transmission lines.
