YouTube is set to introduce a new artificial intelligence-powered editing tool that could change how creators produce videos, allowing them to edit content simply by giving instructions through a chat interface. The platform announced the innovation at its ‘Made on YouTube’ event on Wednesday, as competition around AI-powered content creation continues to grow. The development is particularly significant for creators looking for faster ways to produce both long-form videos and YouTube Shorts.
The new conversational editing feature will allow creators to describe what they want changed in their footage using natural language, rather than relying entirely on traditional editing tools. During a demonstration, YouTuber Happy Kelli provided footage of herself dancing in different outfits and instructed the AI to select the strongest take for each outfit before adding music and transitions. The feature is designed to reduce the amount of time creators spend sorting through and editing raw footage.
Beyond selecting clips, the AI tool can reportedly add text overlays, remove pauses from speech and make editing suggestions based on the context of a creator’s conversation with the system. YouTube says the technology is intended to work as a collaborative editing assistant, helping creators move from raw footage to a more polished video without completely taking away their creative control.
Creators will also be able to manually adjust the AI-generated edits through the editing timeline. This means users can accept the AI’s suggestions while still having the option to fine-tune individual elements of their videos. For many content creators, the combination of automation and manual control could make video production less time-consuming while preserving the personal style that differentiates their content.
YouTube said the conversational editing tool is expected to become available for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app in early 2027. The planned launch highlights the growing role of AI in the creator economy and could make advanced video editing more accessible to people who may not have extensive technical editing skills. As AI continues to reshape digital content production, creators and businesses will be watching closely to see how the new YouTube feature performs when it becomes widely available.
