The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) have urged Nigerian banks to intensify efforts toward financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, and increased financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The appeal comes as industry leaders seek stronger collaboration to expand access to financial services and stimulate sustainable economic growth across the country.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by ACAMB executives to the newly inaugurated 24th President and Chairman of the CIBN Council, Dr. Dele Alabi. The visit served as both a congratulatory meeting following his investiture and an opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the two organizations. During the engagement, Dr. Alabi highlighted his “IMPACT” vision, themed “Consolidating Our Local Impact, Enhancing Our Global Relevance,” which focuses on inclusion, professionalism, accountability, skills development, membership growth, and technology-driven innovation within Nigeria’s banking sector.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Alabi stressed that financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment would remain top priorities throughout his tenure. He noted that women play a vital role in managing household finances, making improved access to savings, micro-credit, insurance, and other financial products essential for strengthening families and communities. He also revealed that the institute plans to collaborate closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and ACAMB on public awareness campaigns and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at narrowing Nigeria’s 9 percent gender gap in access to formal financial services.
ACAMB President, Jide Sipe, echoed the institute’s position, emphasizing that broader financial inclusion would not only reduce inequality but also encourage greater participation in the nation’s economy. He announced plans to commemorate ACAMB’s 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades of advancing professionalism, industry collaboration, and strategic communication within Nigeria’s banking sector. Sipe also invited Dr. Alabi to chair the association’s Gala Night scheduled for September 30, 2026, while reaffirming ACAMB’s support for the upcoming CIBN Banking Conference through media relations, digital marketing, and strategic publicity.
Beyond the anniversary celebrations, ACAMB pledged to work closely with banking stakeholders, including the Committee of Banks and the Central Bank of Nigeria, to promote policies that strengthen the financial sector. Sipe emphasized the importance of industry-wide collaboration, urging banks to adopt a unified approach to marketing, communication, and policy advocacy rather than operating independently. Both organizations expressed confidence that stronger partnerships, increased financial inclusion, and improved access to MSME financing would play a significant role in accelerating Nigeria’s economic development and creating more opportunities for businesses and underserved communities.
