Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms are positioning the country for long-term prosperity, despite the challenges that have accompanied the policy changes. Speaking in Abuja during a visit by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly (FOPSHA), Idris said the administration’s bold decisions are already creating a stronger economic foundation for Nigeria’s future.
According to the minister, the Tinubu administration has implemented a series of significant reforms over the past three years aimed at restoring economic stability and attracting investment. He highlighted key achievements such as the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, increased financial capacity for federal and state governments, the expansion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), improved external reserves, and stronger Gross Domestic Product (GDP) performance.
Idris also pointed to major infrastructure projects currently underway, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as critical investments that will drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve connectivity across the country. He added that the government has intensified efforts to tackle insecurity, a move he said is essential for sustaining development and encouraging business confidence.
Speaking on the impact of the reforms, the minister noted that President Tinubu had taken difficult decisions that previous administrations avoided for years. He argued that these measures are already yielding positive results through improved investor confidence, greater financial stability, enhanced infrastructure development, and increased opportunities for Nigerians. Idris urged members of FOPSHA to leverage their influence and grassroots networks to help citizens better understand the objectives and long-term benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier, FOPSHA Chairman, Senator Wasiu Esinlokun, said the delegation visited the ministry to brief officials on the forum’s activities and seek support for its upcoming National Executive Council and Board of Trustees meeting. He explained that the gathering will bring together former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, former governors, ministers, and senior lawmakers, while reaffirming the forum’s commitment to mobilizing grassroots support for the administration’s policies through continuous engagement with communities across Nigeria.
