The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term investments in Nigeria, underscoring the growing economic partnership between both nations despite shifting global economic conditions. The UAE said Nigeria remains a strategic partner in Africa, with rising trade volumes and expanding investment opportunities driving stronger bilateral relations.
Speaking on the evolving relationship, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, described the partnership as one built on resilience, mutual trust, and a shared vision for sustainable growth. He noted that cooperation between the two countries is increasingly focused on sectors capable of delivering long-term economic benefits, including infrastructure, logistics, energy, and technology.
According to Al Hajeri, non-oil trade between Nigeria and the UAE has recorded significant growth over the last five years, reflecting efforts by both countries to diversify economic activities beyond traditional sectors. He attributed the progress to the UAE’s investor-friendly environment and strategic investments that have strengthened trade networks and protected business operations from global disruptions.
The UAE is also looking beyond trade by expanding its footprint in innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, healthcare, education, and renewable energy. Al Hajeri highlighted the country’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement programme across Africa and pointed to the recently unveiled $1 billion “AI for Development in Africa” initiative as a major step toward supporting digital ecosystems and unlocking new economic opportunities across the continent.
Looking ahead, the UAE said Africa will remain central to its long-term economic strategy, with Nigeria expected to play a pivotal role in future collaborations. The minister stressed that the UAE is committed to fostering mutual prosperity through strategic investments and stronger economic integration, describing the partnership as a bridge to a more prosperous future for both nations and generations to come.
