Ripple Invests in Flutterwave Series E to Power Stablecoin Payments Across Africa
Ripple has made a strategic investment in Flutterwave as part of the Nigerian fintech giant’s Series E fundraising round, marking a major step toward expanding stablecoin-powered payments across Africa. The deal strengthens Flutterwave’s valuation at $3.2 billion and signals growing global confidence in Africa’s digital finance ecosystem. At the heart of the partnership is a shared goal: making cross-border payments faster, cheaper, and more efficient for African businesses.
The collaboration is built around deep technological integration. Flutterwave will embed RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin, into its payment infrastructure and Send App remittance corridors as a key settlement asset for high-volume transactions. The partnership will also leverage the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to enable faster transaction clearing, while a unified API will connect Flutterwave’s domestic payment systems with Ripple’s global network, improving seamless interoperability across borders.
Beyond technology, the partnership reflects a broader shift in how money moves across Africa. By combining traditional payment methods—such as bank transfers, mobile wallets, and card payments—with blockchain-powered settlement, the system aims to eliminate long-standing challenges like delayed transactions, high foreign exchange costs, and liquidity bottlenecks. Businesses are expected to benefit from real-time settlement, predictable pricing, and improved access to global markets.
Ripple executives described the move as a natural evolution of Africa’s growing digital finance landscape. According to Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, Reece Merrick, stablecoins are becoming central to modern payment systems, and Flutterwave is well-positioned to lead that transformation across the continent by building efficient, enterprise-grade financial infrastructure.
Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, said the investment represents a milestone in the company’s mission to build a “payment superhighway” linking African commerce to the global economy. With over $500 million raised and more than a billion transactions processed worth over $50 billion, Flutterwave is positioning itself as a key driver of financial inclusion and digital trade expansion for African SMEs and global enterprises alike.
