The British Government has emphasized that Nigeria’s stability remains a top priority, citing its deep economic, financial, and security investments in the country. The assurance was given by British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery during a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja.
According to Montgomery, the United Kingdom will continue to engage Nigeria with respect, acknowledging its position as Africa’s largest economy and one of the continent’s most influential nations. He noted that developments in Nigeria have far-reaching effects beyond its borders, making its political and economic stability critical to international partners.
The High Commissioner also revealed that the UK will deploy election observers to monitor the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states. He explained that the move is aimed at ensuring credible, peaceful, and transparent electoral processes ahead of Nigeria’s general elections next year, while reaffirming Britain’s support for democratic institutions in the country.
In response, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda welcomed the UK’s engagement, stressing that Nigeria’s stability is essential not only for Africa but for global progress. He assured that the ruling party remains committed to peaceful elections and issue-based political campaigns, particularly in the upcoming state governorship polls.
Yilwatda further highlighted ongoing political and economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that efforts to build a stronger economy and deepen democratic governance remain a national priority. He added that strengthening internal party democracy and national stability will continue to guide the APC’s political direction ahead of future elections.
