Telcos Promise Better Network Quality in Nigeria as ATCON Pledges Service Improvements Before Year-End
Telecommunications companies in Nigeria have pledged that users will experience better call quality, stronger network coverage, and improved internet services before the end of 2026. The promise comes amid rising frustration from subscribers over dropped calls, slow data speeds, and unstable connections across the country.
The President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Tony Emoekpere, said ongoing efforts by operators, infrastructure providers, and regulators are already in motion to fix long-standing service challenges. He made this known during a television interview where he addressed growing concerns about poor telecom experiences and rising tariffs.
According to Emoekpere, the industry is working closely with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other key stakeholders to address infrastructure gaps and operational issues affecting service delivery. He added that continuous engagements are ongoing to ensure that network performance improves significantly nationwide.
In recent years, many Nigerians have complained about poor service quality, including dropped calls, weak signal strength, rapid data depletion, and increasing subscription costs. Reports have also pointed to urban congestion and slow infrastructure expansion in rural areas as major factors affecting network reliability.
Emoekpere urged subscribers to report unresolved complaints to the NCC’s consumer protection platform while assuring that unused data balances are typically carried over when users renew subscriptions on time. The Federal Government has also called on telecom operators to justify recent tariff increases by delivering better service quality to consumers.
