Nigeria’s economy recorded a significant milestone in 2025 as its dollar-denominated gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 22 per cent to about $307 billion, signalling renewed growth momentum and improved macroeconomic stability. The development was disclosed in a report by Quartus Economics titled “Nigeria on the Rise Again.”

According to the report, the increase was driven by a combination of stronger domestic production and a modest appreciation of the naira. Nigeria’s nominal GDP grew from N372.8 trillion in 2024 to N441.5 trillion in 2025, while the exchange rate strengthened from N1,479/$ to N1,436/$, contributing to the overall dollar GDP expansion.

The analysis showed that Nigeria’s economy not only recovered above the $300 billion mark but also outperformed several regional and global peers. The country’s dollar GDP growth of 22 per cent exceeded the Sub-Saharan African average of 10.33 per cent, placing it ahead of major economies such as South Africa, Egypt, and Kenya. Nigeria also accounted for nearly 28 per cent of Africa’s total GDP growth in dollar terms during the period.

On a per capita basis, the report noted improvement in income levels, with GDP per capita rising by 19.5 per cent to $1,295 in 2025 from $1,083 in 2024. This growth came despite a population increase of about 2.1 per cent, indicating that economic expansion is currently outpacing demographic pressure. Nigeria’s per capita income also improved relative to both regional and global benchmarks.

However, Quartus Economics cautioned that while the figures reflect progress, Nigeria still has room for improvement compared to its historical peaks and higher-income peers. The report emphasized that sustained growth will depend on consistent macroeconomic policies, stronger industrial productivity, and continued structural reforms to support long-term stability and development.
