The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dismissed reports circulating online and in some circles claiming it is selling scrap materials and equipment from its refineries. The company described the information as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard it completely.
In a statement issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the NNPC clarified that it has not issued any bids, tenders, or approvals for the sale of refinery scrap or components from its facilities in Port Harcourt, Warri, or Kaduna. It stressed that no such process is currently ongoing.
The company further warned that some individuals are impersonating its officials, attempting to deceive unsuspecting members of the public with false claims of access to refinery equipment and scrap sales. It emphasized that these actors are not authorised representatives of the organisation.
NNPC reiterated that any legitimate disposal of assets would only be carried out through transparent and officially communicated channels, in line with regulatory procedures. It also advised Nigerians, businesses, and stakeholders to be cautious and verify information through official sources before engaging in any transactions.
The company urged the public to report suspicious activities to relevant authorities, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and proper management of national energy assets. It also noted ongoing discussions around refinery rehabilitation, as the three major refineries remain inactive despite previous revival efforts.
