Nigeria’s crude oil production has recorded a significant rebound, reaching a peak of 1.84 million barrels per day (mbpd), according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. The state oil company also confirmed that average production has risen to 1.71 mbpd, a sharp recovery from the low point of about 960,000 barrels per day in 2022.

The figures highlight a steady improvement in Nigeria’s upstream oil sector, with officials attributing the growth to stronger security measures and better coordination across the industry. The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, also confirmed the 1.84 mbpd production level during a recent visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

According to the NUPRC, the increase reflects ongoing efforts to stabilize production and restore confidence in Nigeria’s oil sector. Eyesan noted that while the achievement is significant, there is still room for further growth as operational efficiency and security continue to improve.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Engr. Bashir Ojulari, explained that the production recovery is not accidental but the result of a coordinated strategy to tackle crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, especially in the Niger Delta region. He said the improvements were driven by an “integrated energy security model” involving intelligence gathering, regulatory oversight, and community-based surveillance.

Ojulari added that the resurgence in production has helped restore investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. He emphasized that the combination of security reforms and stakeholder collaboration is key to sustaining output growth and ensuring long-term stability in the sector.
