Engineers India Limited (EIL), a leading Indian engineering consultancy firm, has signed a $350 million contract with Dangote Refinery. The agreement appoints EIL as the project management consultant (PMC) and engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) consultant for the refinery’s ambitious expansion project. This partnership marks a continuation of the long-standing collaboration between EIL and the Dangote Group.

The Dangote Refinery, commissioned in 2024 with a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), is set for a major upgrade. According to the Dangote Group, the expansion will double output to 1.4 million bpd and include a second processing train capable of producing Euro VI grade fuels, meeting stricter environmental standards and international market demand.

Beyond crude oil processing, the refinery plans to significantly boost its polypropylene production. The current output of 830 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) will rise to 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) through a revamp of existing units and the installation of an additional 1.2 MMTPA polypropylene plant. A new 750 kTPA UOP Oleflex Unit will further support propylene feed for the expanded polypropylene facility.

EIL emphasized that the project is a milestone in Nigeria’s drive to become a regional hub for refined petroleum products and petrochemicals. “This contract reflects the trust placed in EIL’s ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity,” the company said. The expansion is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position in global energy markets, reduce fuel imports, and increase regional energy security.

Once completed, Dangote Refinery will emerge as the world’s largest petroleum refinery, setting a new benchmark for the African oil and gas sector. The project highlights the growing collaboration between Nigerian industry leaders and international engineering firms, signaling a new era of investment and innovation in the country’s energy infrastructure.
