The just-concluded IFMA Global Africa Conference 2025 in Lagos gathered facility-management leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the continent to discuss the future of the industry. The event created a rare platform for knowledge exchange on ethics, sustainability, technology, and cross-border collaboration in the African facility management (FM) sector.

One of the most compelling voices at the conference was David O. Korede, CEO of Bloom FM, one of Nigeria’s top facility management companies. In a session focused on ethical procurement and transparent bidding practices, Korede stressed that integrity and openness are key to rebuilding trust, improving service quality, and ensuring long-term growth for the sector.

Korede cautioned against the “lowest-cost-wins” mindset that dominates procurement in Nigeria and other African markets. “We must champion integrity, fairness, and value-driven partnerships,” he told delegates, warning that unethical bidding practices not only undermine innovation but also damage the credibility of vendors and clients alike.

Under Korede’s leadership, Bloom FM has built a reputation for combining sustainability, innovation, and international best practices to deliver world-class solutions. The company continues to lead discussions on maintenance culture, energy efficiency, and the use of technology to transform the FM industry in Nigeria and across Africa.

The conference also featured a keynote by former Minister of Works, Power & Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola, who underscored the need to strengthen Nigeria’s maintenance culture. Delegates explored cross-border collaboration, skills development, renewable energy integration, and digital innovations. Korede’s actionable model for ethical screening and transparent evaluation won strong support from stakeholders, reinforcing IFMA’s role in positioning facility management as a driver of efficiency, sustainability, and economic growth in Africa.
