President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Fegho John Umunubo from his role as Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy in the Office of the Vice President. The announcement, which came through the State House on Monday, takes immediate effect and bars Umunubo from representing the administration in any capacity.

According to a statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, the disengagement was final and should serve as guidance to both local and international stakeholders in Nigeria’s growing digital and creative industries. The Presidency emphasized that Umunubo’s association with the government has officially ended.

“The general public is hereby notified that Fegho John Umunubo… has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the statement read. It further cautioned industry players that any dealings with Umunubo under the guise of representing the Presidency would be at their own risk, stressing the administration’s firm stance on accountability and clarity in representation.

The decision comes at a critical time as Nigeria’s digital and creative sectors continue to gain global recognition and attract foreign investment. The abrupt change raises questions about the government’s next steps in managing policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the digital economy, a sector seen as vital for job creation and youth empowerment.

While the Presidency has not disclosed the reasons behind the aide’s dismissal, the move underscores Tinubu’s determination to maintain a disciplined and transparent administration. Industry observers now await the appointment of a new aide who can drive innovation and policy direction in one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economic sectors.
