German AI Defence Start-up Helsing Secures €600 Million in Major Investment Round

German defence technology start-up Helsing has successfully raised €600 million in its latest funding round, significantly boosting its market valuation. The round was led by Prima Materia, an investment firm co-founded by Spotify creator Daniel Ek and long-time tech investor Shakil Khan. This marks a continued show of confidence in Helsing’s strategic direction and technological potential.

According to the Financial Times, the new funding has propelled Helsing’s valuation to around $12 billion, placing it among the top five private tech companies in Europe. This highlights the growing investor appetite for defence-related technology firms, especially those at the intersection of artificial intelligence and military innovation.

In addition to Prima Materia doubling its stake, the investment attracted major backers such as Lightspeed Ventures, Accel, Plural, General Catalyst, and Swedish defence firm SAAB. Helsing’s appeal lies in its strong focus on developing AI-driven defence software, along with its expanding ambition to manufacture its own drones, aircraft, and submarines.

Based in Munich, Helsing is well-positioned to capitalize on rising global defence budgets, as governments respond to escalating geopolitical tensions with increased military spending. The company’s core AI systems are aimed at enhancing battlefield awareness, operational intelligence, and autonomous systems for armed forces.
